Missing link is a concept of evolutionary biology denoting lack of knowledge and evidence of important transitions through which we could possibly restore the whole picture of the development of life. The “missing links” in the cultural history of a nation are more of a scientific problem. They may be crucial for its future. For they are not just knowledge gaps, but also a lack of communion with the creators of national culture: outstanding and distinctive personalities whose life and thought can serve as an example and a model.
